All the Ladies

I’ve been steadily adding to my Victorian/Edwardian brooch collection for some time now. This is how my collection of sweetheart brooches with names is progressing:

It’s one of those collections that just started with my liking a small brooch with the name Edith on it. The rest is history (if you pardon the pun). I like to wonder what the ladies in question were actually like…

So are these brooches the ladies themselves would wear, or did they give them to their sweethearts?

The ladies would wear them, often given to them by their sweethearts. Though, I have seen them with men’s names on too, also ‘Best Wishes’ and that sort of thing.

Coke was legal back in Victorian times. So, I think the name tags started as an aid to help them remember who they were. Perhaps. Not definitive.

Very pretty, and what a good idea.
