Cyd Charisse
Posted by Alison under: Films; Videos .
For those of you that haven’t noticed already, I’m a classic film fan! I especially love musicals too.
I was sad to hear that Cyd Charisse died today, though she did make it to the grand old age of 86, so she didn’t do too badly.
There are a few musicals I like to watch her dance in, but bizarrely, I like to see her dancing in the Broadway Melody sequence in Singin’ in the Rain (which is also one of my top favourites.) I also love the hairstyle and the green flapper dress - right up my street. When I was in my early twenties I had my hair cut in a twenties style just like Louise Brooks’.
Bizarrely, because the sequence is my least favourite part of the film. But hey, here’s to you Cyd:

I was an old movie buff, too, REALLY big buff. It’s been many moons since I saw Singin’ in the Rain! That clip was my least favorite scene in the film, actually, but boy oh boy they could dance, couldn’t they?

It’s a sad day when the ladies of dance begin to fade away. Shirley MacLaine is another favorite, although people don’t always think of her as a dancer. Ann Miller too. I have always liked to watch musicals, for the dancing and choreography. Cyd had a good long run, didn’t she? ![]()

Sad. I’m an old movie buff too. Pretty hot stuff in her day, too. We will miss her. Hope you are doing ok.

A sad day indeed, but at least she got to a nice old age.
We had a musical weekend, the girlie’s went off to see Mary Poppins at the theatre, so we’ve had lots of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Yeah, tis sad, I love all the old films so much I want the actors to go on forever I think. My favourite will always be Singin’ in the Rain, but I posted a clip here ages ago about Kind Hearts and Coronets, and recently found it on Facebook too. You all must watch it immediately if you haven’t already!
