Edward Makes a Genealogical Appearance

Posted by Alison under: Eleanor; Genealogy; History; TV .

I’m a big fan of the way the BBC promotes Family History/Genealogy with the show ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’
It shows just how interesting and addictive it can be, using celebrities’ families to illustrate.  I just watched the last in the series last week, which was about Matthew Pinsent’s family.  (An Olympic multiple gold medal winner for Rowing.)

It was, as usual, a very interesting story, covering the First World War, and his relatively aristocratic family, but became yet more interesting to me in the last 10 minutes or so.

It was revealed that, through Matthew’s female line, he is directly descended for King Edward I (aka Eleanor’s husband.)  Sadly though, his line comes through Edward’s second marriage, so he is not related to Eleanor herself.
